Intro to Stamp Carving

In this introductory class, we’ll use EZ Carve, a soft, rubbery carving material, to create carved blocks for printing. You’ll learn how to design and carve a block that can seamlessly repeat for patternmaking—think wallpaper, textiles, and surface design—but if patterns aren’t your thing, you’re welcome to carve whatever image you like.
You can draw your own design, work from our extensive reference materials, or trace an existing image to get started. This is a low-pressure, relaxing, and surprisingly addictive process that’s great for beginners and experienced makers alike. Come experiment, carve, and watch your pattern come to life through repetition.
If you catch the relief printing bug, more advanced carving classes are offered as well, building on these techniques and introducing more complex tools, materials, and processes.
