About this Event
Explore the fauna of the world in this fun introductory class! Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of flameworking by creating beads and small sculptures inspired by animals. The class will explore the basics of sculpting and surface design, and touch on concepts like tool use, annealing, studio safety, and more! You can expect to make between 2 - 6 successful glass critters in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining confidence and a solid foundation working with soft glass.
What to expect: Flameworking with soft glass requires a little practice at heat control with the torch to create successful sculptures. After demonstrations, expect to make between 2 - 6 successful objects in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining confidence and skill in the studio. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Flameworking can involve a mix of seated and standing activities, including working with glass rods and torches. The environment can be bright and loud at times. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity. Learn more about accessibility on our website.
Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
