Join us for an introduction to Scouting America Swim Testing at the Live Oak Pool (Pool 1) in Avalon Park. This event will include a short poolside lesson in swim safety. Each scout will also have the opportunity to take the Scouting America Swim Test, which determines the level of water activities deemed safe for the scout based on skill level.
Scouts are welcome to bring their friends to swim as a family after our activity, but please note that every child must have a parent with them who will supervise them at all times during our event. We are not responsible for any children other than registered scouts who are actively participating in the 1:1 swim test.
The Swimmer Test Steps:
Jump: Feet-first into water over the head, level off.
Swim 75 Yards: Use a strong stroke (sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl).
Swim 25 Yards: Use an easy, resting backstroke.
Float: Rest by floating on the back or in a resting position.
Requirement: Must be completed continuously, including at least one sharp turn.
Beginner Test: Jump into over-the-head water, swim 25 feet, stop, turn, and return to the start.
Annual Requirement: Tests should be renewed annually.
At the end of the test, your scout will be placed into one of three classifications:
Swim Classifications
Swimmer: Passes the above test.
Beginner: Jumps in, swims 25 feet, makes a turn, and swims back.
Non-Swimmer: No test; restricted to shallow water.
