Workshop Description:
This beginner workshop provides a hands-on introduction to Python programming for data analysis. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the Python language through practical exercises using sample datasets. Participants will develop skills to explore, visualise and analyse data while also learning to write simple programs to automate common tasks. No prior programming experience is required.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will:
-Understand the fundamentals of the Python programming language.
-Be able to perform basic analysis and visualisation of data using Python.
-Have some familiarity of the Python ecosystem, including:
- Python packages
- Conda
- Jupyter
Eligibility:
This free workshop is available to staff and students at The University of Melbourne and its affiliated institutes.
You must register for this event using an affiliated institutional email address or your registration may be cancelled.
Prerequisites and Requirements:
This workshop does not require any previous experience and is designed for participants with little or no command-line knowledge. This is an in person hands-on workshop and attendees must bring their own computers (laptop chargers also recommended). Wifi access to internet via uniwireless or Eduroam and a Web browser (Firefox or Chrome recommended) is required.
In order for the workshop to begin smoothly, we ask all participants to follow the directions on this page to setup their laptops before attending. This involves installing software and downloading test datasets. If you encounter any trouble setting up your laptop, we are happy to help you on the day of the workshop.
