Explore the essential elements of permaculture with TIPI! Beginning introduction of decolonizing permaculture by Native elder Dan Wahpepah.
About this Event

This beginner friendly workshop explores the essential elements of permaculture and how we can apply it to land, our communities, and ourselves.

Agenda

The first half of the workshop will introduce permaculture from an Indigenous lens by permaculture expert and Native elder Dan Wahpepah (Anishinabe, Kickapoo, and Sac & Fox). Dan was raised with his community’s cultural ways and ceremonies. He started the Rogue Valley Pow Wow, American Indian Cultural Center (now the Southern Oregon Indian Center), Red Earth Descendants and Turtle Island Permaculture Institute (TIPI). He sits on the boards of Natives of One Wind Indigenous Alliance, Rogue Climate, and Water League.

The second half of the workshop will cover various permaculture design concepts such as permaculture principles, scales of permanence, zones, sectors, and patterns. It will be co-taught by various TIPI admin members who all have Permaculture Design Certificates (PDCs) and are working to co-create and support the mission of TIPI.

After this workshop, you will walk away with a comprehensive picture of the many faces of permaculture and a feeling for the heart of this way of living. You will also gain a clear sense for the various workshops, PDC courses, and opportunities that TIPI has to offer.

About

TIPI is an emerging program of Red Earth Descendants (RED) sharing the vision of living in right relationship with one another, with Mother Earth, and with all beings. As the first Native-led Indigenous permaculture education center, TIPI weaves an important new approach to permaculture that integrates ancestral wisdom with traditional ecological knowledge and regenerative systems. Drawing on practices that have sustained life for millennia, TIPI cultivates traditional foods in community gardens, supports re-Indigenization and reconnection, and restores sacred reciprocity and natural balance. Our work is deeply relational, rooted in the understanding that humans are not separate from nature, but a vital part of it. Pricing & Registration

This workshop is being offered with 3 different registration options:

  1. Community Supporting: $90 Suggested Donation - This option is for those able to cover the full price of their own registration and support someone else’s. This helps us offer our “Community Supported” option to those who would otherwise not have the financial means to participate. This is both an act of equity and a practice of restoration. All of our work is rooted in sacred reciprocity, community accountability, and the understanding that education is a path to restoration. Deep gratitude for those who can financially support the mission of Turtle Island Permaculture Institute.
  2. Community Sustaining: $45 Suggested Donation - This option covers the regular suggested donation amount for one registration. This helps support our teachers and allows us to sustain our educational, community building and land re-Indigenization goals.
  3. Community Supported: Free - This option offers free registration to those who are more economically marginalized including single parents, BIPOC, elders, people with differing abilities, and those living below the poverty line. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

After reserving your spot on Eventbrite, please make your donation to Red Earth Descendants at www.redearthdescendants.org/donate

All donations are tax-deductible.

We have limited capacity. If your plans change, please let us know at [email protected] so that we can make space for others who wish to attend.

Much Appreciation!
