This workshop by Impact introduces you to the world of grip, from the basic anatomy of a lightstand to advanced rigging techniques. You will learn why everyone needs grip on set and get a breakdown of the different grip positions and technicians who make it happen. We will explore how to choose the right floor support, covering everything from traditional and C-stands to baby, combo, overhead, and wind-up models. You will also learn to use professional grip devices like super clamps, cardellinis, and scissor clamps.
Beyond stands, we’ll dive into rigging booms safely using multi-headers and offset arms, as well as mounting gear to walls and ceilings using baby plates, pipe grids, and couplers. The session also covers floor-to-ceiling varipoles and background supports like varidrives and crossbars. You will learn to shape light with scrims, flags, and silks, and we’ll touch on essential camera support.
