This hands-on course will introduce participants to the wide world of artist's books and provide the technical basis to allow you to create your own books. A historically definition-defying medium, artist's books provide a freedom in form and content that lend themselves to being an expressive medium for a wide range of artists and crafters.
Alongside discussions of the history, cultural significance, and expansive possibilities of artist's books, participants will learn traditional bookbinding techniques that can be played with to create forms specific to their project vision. They will leave the course with 1-2 hand made books.

About the Instructor: Laur Flom makes books and also things that are not books. They hold a BFA in Printmaking from OCAD University and an MFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Utilizing the sequential nature of print and book forms, their work explores themes of queerness and absurdism. Laur's recent work centers around pushing the limits of what books can be. Their work is held in various public and private collections, including the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, and Emily Carr University's Special Collections library.
