Intro to Aerial Dance Class - beginner friendly, pay on website
About this Event
Intro to Aerial Arts | Skybound
Vaudeville Underground
Ever looked up at someone flying through the air and thought, "I want to try that"? This is your way in.
In this beginner-friendly class, you'll get hands-on time with aerial silks, hammock, lyra, and dance trapeze, no experience necessary!
We'll cover the basics: how to climb, wrap, and move safely on each apparatus, plus your first real tricks and shapes in the air. By the end of class, you'll have felt what it's like to leave the ground!
No chin ups, no experience, no gym? No problem! Just you, the air, and a room full of people cheering you on.

What Happens Next?
Skybound is your foundation, so come as many times as you need to develop a safe baseline for mounting and moving through skills. Some students are ready to move on after one week, others in six months, and plenty do both Level 1 and 0 at the same time. We make Foundations fun and safe for all, no matter how long you like to attend!
When you're ready to go deeper on a single apparatus, you can step directly into our Level 1 drop-in classes on the regular schedule. No separate enrollment, no price change, no audition. We recommend at least 10 Skybound classes to build a solid base, but you'll know when you're ready. Just ask staff for help accessing your first Level 1 class!

Agenda
🕑: 06:45 PM
Pre-class Check-in
Info: Check in, kick off your shoes, and get a feel for the space. You're welcome to hang out in the lobby or the warehouse lounge, or you can start to warm up on the edge of the athletic carpet while the previous classes wrap up. If it's your first time here, someone can walk you through how to check in with your phone using the VU app at the tablet.
🕑: 07:00 PM - 07:15 PM
Class starts! Warmup first.
Info: We like to spend a little time at the beginning of class grounding into our bodies, getting to know each other, and preparing for a fun hour. Together we'll warm up our shoulders, wrists, hips, ankles, core, and anything else we might put some extra work into this class. Everyone has different bodies so it's always okay to adjust your warmup for your specific needs, or ask questions to understand more.
🕑: 07:15 PM
Get Stronger in the Air!
Info: We mean it when we say "you don't have to already be strong to successfully do aerial!" You get strong just by trying. Together we'll move through a few exercises on each apparatus designed to combine technique-building and strength-conditioning with fun movement drills. You'll start exactly as you are, and you'll successfully move through exactly the pace that is healthy for you. You'll leave a little stronger each time, no matter where you're starting from. Conditioning has never felt more like play!
🕑: 07:30 PM - 07:55 PM
A Success Story in the Making
Info: Next, we'll try out some of what we learned in the technique drills already by applying it directly to skill progressions! You'll make shapes, fly through movements, and try new next steps that will only keep building your brand new aerial skillset. There is no wrong way to move through your first flight, as long as you're safe and having fun with the skills we teach you. It will get easier every time to move through the air with the greatest of ease!
🕑: 07:55 PM
Cool Down Together
Info: At the end of every class, it's time to take care of our bodies for doing exciting, sometimes scary, usually hard things. We'll roll around on the floor and gently stretch to cool down together for the last few minutes. Take the time you need after class, then remember to get home safe and drink lots of water!
