Focus on our North Queensland environment with exhibiting artist Katherine Cornwall. Kathrine will share techniques she uses in her practise and assist participants to create detailed paintings of local habitat. Using photographs as a reference, attendees will follow Katherine’s process of drawing a ‘lacework’ of positive and negative form to create a composition. Participants will work with acrylic and oil paints on a 20 x 25 cm stretched canvas and explore colour mixing and brush application techniques.
This workshop is suitable for those who have basic drawing skills for outlining form. Attendees are welcome to bring their own reference images that capture a detailed environment up-close or select one of Katherine’s photographs to work from. All materials and equipment provided.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Katherine Cornwall (b. 1980, Fiji) earned her Bachelor of Visual Arts from James Cook University in 2005. She has curated and exhibited locally, as well as in Melbourne, Sydney, and in Nadi and Suva, Fiji. Her work has been shortlisted for the Heysen Prize for Landscape at Hahndorf Academy and Perc Tucker Regional Gallery’s The Percivals.

Her visual practice also features drypoint, linocut, ceramics, and wooden forms. She is a multi-disciplinary artist who has recorded an original album, Shiny Dirt, and holds a Bachelor of Professional and Creative Writing from Deakin University. Her poems engage with philosophy and the environment.
