This course is designed for Healthcare Professionals needing to gain a working knowledge of the fundamentals of IV Therapy. Topics covered include the role of the clinician guided by the Nurse Practice Act, pertinent anatomy and physiology and site selection, infection control/biohazard waste compliance, types of catheters available along with their recommended usage, preparing for and performing venipuncture, recommendations regarding types of dressings and time frame for dressing changes, proper documentation maintaining catheter patency, the relationship between IV therapy and the body's hemostatic and regulatory functions, formulas used to calculate fluid and drug administration rate, nursing care of the patient receiving: drug therapy, blood, and blood components, parenteral nutrition, fluid for hydration, applied learning of knowledge learned in practice.
