This outreach experience is open to Spouses within the Special Operations Forces Community.
About this Event
Special Operation Forces Spouses are invited to join The Station Foundation for a macramé workshop at the Tidewater Community College Joint Use Library. Participants will practice mindfulness while creating a macramé ornament and a pair of earrings.

Tapping into one's creativity provides many positive mental health and physical benefits. Macramé has a soothing effect on the mind. Focusing on the task at hand allows a person to feel more positive emotions and a sense of calmness because art requires a presence of mind. It creates a meditative atmosphere where it’s just you and your craft. Outside distractions are eliminated. Macramé allows you to enter a flow state without feeling overwhelmed. Being in flow state boosts self-confidence, life satisfaction, creativity, and emotional regulation. Because of the repetitive nature of the craft and the satisfying finished product, macramé is a great way to relax while creating beautiful art pieces for you and your home.

In times of uncertainty and distress, taking up art and crafts allows you to restore balance. The stress reducing nature of this craft prompts the body to relax when coupled with mindful breathing. Participants can transition from a heightened state of arousal and adrenal fatigue to a more restful, restorative state of being.
