About this Event
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the basics of weaving on a backstrap loom — but with a twist. Traditionally, the loom is strapped to your body and a fixed structure. Here, you’ll be connected to another person, weaving toward each other.
As the shuttle moves back and forth, threads intertwine — and so do stories. This is about more than technique; it’s about connection, trust, and learning through shared rhythm. Come ready to engage, create, and get to know someone new through the meditative act of weaving.
History of this piece:
“In the piece Ones That Receive (2022), two individuals slowly weave toward each other as they depend on one another to keep tension. The strings between them flow and alter as they do, receiving the slight movements that vibrate through the fibers. They weave strips of written fabric in both Spanish and English that speaks about vulnerability, adaptability, and durability.”
