Interwar Fashion & Design: 1918 - 1939

The interwar period between 1918 and 1939 saw radical changes in fashion worn by women in Melbourne. The use of new materials and a liberating silhouette became a reaction against the deprivations of World War I, while Hollywood in the 1920s and 1930s remained a pervasive influence, to which local designers responded during the exuberant 1920s and the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Over three weekends at Villa Alba Museum, view historic costumes, textiles and accessories of the period drawn from the nationally significant costume collection of the Kew Historical Society.
