International Vichitra Veena Day 2026- Celebrating the Rare Fretless Veena of Indian Classical Music

International Vichitra Veena Day 2026 is a dedicated cultural and educational observance celebrating the legacy, beauty and living presence of the Vichitra Veena, a rare fretless Indian classical instrument known for its meditative depth, gliding स्वर, and extraordinary connection with the ancient Veena tradition of India.

Observed annually on 19 November, International Vichitra Veena Day was initiated by Dr. Radhika Veena Sadhika, Founder-Director of Veena Venu Art Foundation, with the purpose of preserving, promoting and documenting the Vichitra Veena for present and future generations. The day is part of the larger mission of Veena Venu Art Foundation and the International Vichitra Veena Council to bring this rare instrument back into public awareness through education, research, documentation, outreach and creative cultural engagement.

Last year’s International Vichitra Veena Day received a meaningful response through awareness initiatives, online visibility, school outreach, cultural participation and public engagement. The observance helped introduce the Vichitra Veena to wider audiences, including young students and first-time listeners. Building on that successful beginning, International Vichitra Veena Day 2026 continues the movement with renewed focus on learning, listening, documentation and cultural participation.

This year’s activities may include Vichitra Veena awareness sessions, school and college outreach, student participation activities, listening rituals, short educational videos, articles, posters, quiz activities, drawing and writing activities, digital campaigns, artist tributes, research notes, archival sharing, public talks, and online cultural engagement around the Vichitra Veena.
