The visitor center & gift shop will be open before the program.
October 4th is “International Observe the Moon Night,” a worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of our Moon and its connection to NASA planetary science, exploration and human culture. It is sponsored by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. This is the 16th year for this event, which typically occurs each year around the first quarter phase in September or October. This year's event is happening during a waxing gibbous - the moon is slightly more than 3/4 illuminated and the shadows along the terminator (the line between night and day on the moon) are long and drastic.
