Join us for an evening of remembrance and reflection as The National WWII Museum commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

5:00 p.m. Reception | 6:00 p.m. Program

We will be joined by featured speaker Jack Cohen, a Holocaust survivor. Cohen was born in 1932 in Chalcis, Greece. After Germany and its allies invaded Greece in 1941, Cohen's family kept a low profile until the Nazis began arresting Greek Jews in 1943. Cohen and his family went into hiding, sheltering at a Greek Orthodox monastery for nearly two years. Watch Cohen's oral history here: https://www.ww2online.org/view/jack-cohen?_ga=2.152177209.1025270943.1734713554-382307099.1668020935

Before the program, join us for a reception to explore photojournalist Erez Kaganovitz's storytelling project Humans of the Holocaust. The project pairs compelling contemporary photos of Holocaust survivors with their own remarkable life stories. The poignant and powerful photographs and personal accounts captured by Kaganovitz, the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, offer a fresh perspective about the experiences of Holocaust survivors. Humans of the Holocaust explores individual stories that show how the human spirit can overcome even the most inhumane circumstances. The project is on display at The National WWII Museum from January 13–31, 2025. Learn more about the project here: https://www.nationalww2museum.org/events-programs/events/134799-humans-holocaust
