Brought to you by the Arizona Technology Council, International Day of Light at Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium is a free, all-ages event featuring hands-on optics activities, planetarium shows, and science exhibits that explore how light shapes our world. Held as part of the global International Day of Light, it highlights the importance of light in science, technology, and everyday life. All free activities and planetarium seating is offered on a first-come basis. Check out the schedule below.SCHEDULE
10AM to 5PM - Exhibits and activities
Optics activities throughout the science center, plus the new Mysteries of the Cosmos exhibit!
11AM - Back to the Moon For Good
🎞️Experience a new era of lunar exploration in this immersive full-dome film narrated by Tim Allen, featuring the Google Lunar XPRIZE and humanity’s return to the Moon.
🎤Hosted by Olivia Fehlberg from Ruda Optical.
💺Doors open at 10:45 a.m. Show runs 11:00–11:45 a.m. Recommended for 4th grade and up. Seating is first come, first seated.
1:00 PM - The Sun, Our Living Star
🎞️Explore the power and beauty of our nearest star in this immersive full-dome film featuring stunning imagery of the Sun’s dynamic surface and the forces that drive life on Earth.
🧑‍🏫Followed by a live talk from Dr. Patrick Poole, Physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, on Inertial Fusion Energy at the National Ignition Facility.

3:00 PM - Forward! To the Moon
🎞️Journey into NASA’s Artemis program and humanity’s return to the Moon in this immersive full-dome experience narrated by MythBusters’ Kari Byron, highlighting the mission to land the first woman and person of color on the lunar surface.
