About this Event
Crumhorns were played throughout Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, usually in groups employed to display a luxury instruments. They were used for dances, in larger ensembles to change the tone and with voices.
On this occasion, we will be a group of four to six players in the small space of Garrick's Temple, playing fanfares from the steps at the front, and then songs and dance music inside. Come along to find out more about this fascinating instrument!
Anyone able and willing to listen is welcome to attend this concert, whether they are avid fans of Tudor-era instruments or utterly unfamiliar with reed instruments in general. We will include musical references to Shakespeare and David Garrick within the programme and will be explaining the main features of its construction - some of which will be familiar to recorder players.
Admission is cheaper in advance [£14; £8], and booking is recommended for this small venue, but admission is still possible on the door [£16].
