About this Event

Intermediate Improv - 202 Deep Dives - 4 key skill workshops

For those who want to expand their skills in a certain area, you can dip in where you feel necessary. The 202 course offers 4 across the term, each an individual core topic. They are standalone themes, and of course, we think they're all equally important!
Together in this series we will explore the skills of shortform improv at a deeper level. We'll look at specific applications and play with differing concepts, to strengthen your improv tool belt. If you've taken our 202 before, this may be different, scroll to check!
This is a supportive and fun environment where you can relax into silliness! Each class will include games and exercises to get us feeling loose and inspire fun, and then dive us into the topic of the day. You will be on your feet, active, trying and playing - laughs are guaranteed!

Core Topics:

  • Start Strong: Openings that Matter
  • Genres: Building Worlds Through Style
  • Justify Everything
  • Game of the Scene

About the Start Strong: Openings That Matter workshop:

Set the tone from your very first move. This workshop focuses on bold, clear initiations that fuel compelling scenes. Learn how to bring strong choices—whether through character, relationship, or environment—into your openings without overthinking. Discover how confident starts can unlock playful discoveries, shape the direction of a scene, and inspire your scene partners from the very first moment.

About the Genres: Building Worlds Through Style workshop

Step into new worlds and play with the rules that define them. This workshop explores how genre shapes tone, relationships, and storytelling—from film noir to rom-com, fantasy to realism. Learn to recognise and heighten stylistic conventions, switch effortlessly between genres, and let style spark fresh discoveries. Whether you love grounded scenes or big theatrical worlds, you’ll expand your range and have a blast doing it. We'll look at key tropes and ideas then exlpore a few of the crowd favourite genres!

About the Justify Everything workshop:Unlock the power of justification in your improv. This workshop dives into the art of turning unexpected moments, strange offers, or "mistakes" into brilliant choices. Learn how to say "yes" with purpose, build logical worlds out of chaos, and transform confusion into clarity. Justification brings confidence, cohesion, and comic gold to your scenes—discover how to make every move feel intentional.

About the Game of the Scene workshop

Find what’s fun and play it hard. This workshop introduces the concept of “game of the scene”—spotting the unusual thing, heightening it, and building comedic clarity together. You’ll explore patterns, point of view, and playful escalation without getting stuck in your head. Whether you’ve heard the term before or are totally new to it, you’ll leave with practical tools to make your scenes clearer, funnier, and more collaborative.
