Whether you're a healthcare professional, security officer, peace officer, teacher, coach, social services worker, or simply someone who wants to be prepared for the unexpected, this course provides practical, real-world skills you can use when they matter most.
This isn't passive classroom learning. You'll participate in realistic scenarios, work with professional equipment, and receive hands-on coaching from experienced paramedics. Students consistently leave these courses feeling more confident, much better prepared, and genuinely surprised by how much they've learned.
1) INTERMEDIATE FIRST AID
Topics include: primary and secondary assessments, airway, breathing and circulation emergencies, sudden medical conditions like seizures, asthma, strokes, and legal considerations and roles of the first aider.
2)HEALTHCARE CPR
Topics include one-and-two-rescuer CPR (Adult, Child, and Infant), use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and airway management (including bag-valve-mask techniques), oxygen use and patient reassessment.
3)NARCAN ADMINISTRATION: Opioid Recognition and Response
This focused module equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to opioid overdoses using Naloxone (Narcan)- a fast-acting, life-saving medication.
Topics include how to recognize signs of opioid overdose, understanding how opioids affect the body, how to safely administer intranasal or intramuscular Naloxone, performing supportive care, including rescue breathing and CPR if needed, post-administration protocols and legal considerations, and how to work effectively with EMS and first responders.
4)STOP THE BLEED: Hemorrhage Control Training
This internationally recognized course is designed to reduce death from severe blood loss during emergencies like active shooter incidents or terrorist attacks (but is applicable to any massive bleeding event) It's administered by the American College of Surgeons- Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT).
Learn essential life-saving techniques including:
Applying direct pressure
Using hemostatic (clotting) agents
Proper application of tourniquets, including the CAT device (licenced for sale Canada-wide by Edmonton-based CTOMS)
CCEMS is authorized to deliver this course and issue ACS-COT certificates.
