About this Event
Prerequisite skills: Previous sewing skills required. Need to be familar with working on a sewing machine or have taken a beginner sewing class with us.
Do you want an entry-level lesson on sewing and garment construction? Do you have a sewing machine but are uncertain how to use it?
Join us for a hands-on introductory course that will teach you the foundational skills needed to construct simple apparel items. This class is perfect for the aspiring sewist who is curious to try sewing or the self-taught sewist who would like to increase their knowledge and technical skill set.
Only 4 places!
Students will:
- Cut and sew a cozy robe;
- Work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers.
- Learn sewing vocabulary, including sewing machine parts and apparel construction terminology;
- Learn how to thread and operate a conventional sewing machine, including trouble-shooting common issues;
- Receive instruction on how to read sewing pattern pieces
- Learn basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction; and
- Receive a complimentary Rightfully Sewn sewing pattern for a robe to continue sewing at home.
All sewing tools & fabric will be provided by Rightfully Sewn Academy and it's donors in order to promote and encourage a sustainable future in the fashion industry.
