Piedmont Conference Announces Intergenerational Work Retreat
The Piedmont Conference warmly invites church families of all ages to gather for an Intergenerational Work Retreat, May 22–24, at the beautiful Appalachian Advent Christian Campground in Blowing Rock.
For many years, this weekend has been known as a youth work retreat with counselors serving alongside students. This year, we are excited to introduce a new intergenerational approach, inviting entire congregations to serve together. If a group of teens would like to attend, we ask that each church provide a sponsor who can come, serve, and work alongside them throughout the weekend.
Registration will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening. No meal will be served at registration, but a snack will be available to welcome participants.
Participants will join in campground cleaning and improvement projects, maintenance work, and service opportunities that help prepare the grounds for future ministry and gatherings. As always, there will be meaningful work to accomplish — and many hands are needed. Per tradition, projects will include cleaning ditches, moving brush, and general grounds care. A very large burn pile will require attention throughout most of the weekend as we work to burn and condense accumulated debris. Some work will also take place indoors, sprucing up the buildings, knocking down cobwebs from the winter, and completing other light-duty tasks inside.
We are especially looking for individuals willing to share skills, equipment, and practical expertise. Needed items and assistance include:
Equipment capable of hauling brush
Hand tools for grounds and maintenance work
Help delivering and spreading mulch in playground areas (double-ground, playground-grade mulch)
Equipment that can assist with mulch spreading and general grounds improvement
Beyond the work projects, the retreat will include meaningful opportunities for spiritual connection and fellowship. Participants will gather around a campfire, share devotional thoughts and testimonies, and encourage one another through worship and conversation. On Sunday morning, all attendees are invited to worship together at the Blue Ridge Chapel.
