fantom’s interfaith book club discusses Maus: A Survivor’s Tale by Art Siegelman, originally serialized in Raw magazine 1980-1991. for this book club we will only be covering Maus vol. I: My Father Bleeds History—we’ll host a vol. II book club next month. if you’ve got “the Complete Maus,” we’re only discussing the first half.Maus is Art Spiegelman’s chronicle of his father’s experience of the Holocaust. often marketed as a kids book because it’s a comic and the characters are animals, Maus is not a children’s book but it winds up being a formative text for many jewish kids learning about the Holocaust. beyond the subject matter, Maus is a staggering achievement of graphic storytelling that any comics fan should read.
