Interconnectivity in Motion with Orley Quick.

This movement workshop expands the themes of The Cosmos Within through the body, inviting participants to experience interconnectivity not as an idea, but as a lived, physical practice.

Drawing on Passing Through and Flying Low, participants engage in a shared flow where individual action becomes part of a larger system. Echoing the Enso philosophy at the heart of the exhibition, the practice invites a shift from separation to connection — where movement emerges as a continuous, collective experience.

Passing Through is an ‘instant composition’ system for groups of people to move together in an interconnected way. This system for movement was created by David Zambrano who is based in Brussels where he runs and shares his work at Tictac Art Centre.

In this workshop Orley Quick will introduce some elements of Passing Through via a series of exercises that will work on how to: connect with each other; interact with our environment; keep ourselves open to possibilities; make spontaneous and informed choices. The system works on moving in curved pathways with an ongoing use of spiral in the body. This supports a philosophy of resourcing and recycling of energy, as well as building on ways to move efficiently.

The aim of the practice is to allow the work to emerge as a ‘collective web’ rather than a space to highlight individualism. Come along in comfortable clothing that you do not feel restricted by.

No dance experience necessary; this is an open-level movement class.

About Orley Quick
Orley Quick is a dance artist and teacher. She has taught in a range of vocational and community settings for many years, including universities, FE colleges and adult colleges, teaching contemporary dance, improvisation, choreographic approaches and dance theory. Her teaching is playful, sensory and energised and deeply concerned with being in the present as you are. Orley currently teaches for BOTH Dance Classes, which she co-leads with teaching artist Beatrice Ghezzi as well as at City Lit.

Artistically, Orley has a particular interest in collaboration. Her choreographic work is rooted in social commentary and relationships. She is currently working with Elliot Minogue-Stone in a new research process considering the relevance and context of historical dance moves. She has just finished touring a collaborative work WE MOVE IN CLOSE CIRCLES across homes in the UK. Previously she has made and danced in work performed at The Place, Laban, Camden People's Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, Attenborough Arts, BE Festival to name a few.

The programme is supported by Arts Council England and is part of the UK Mental Health Awareness Week.
