About this Event

This program is free, please RSVP!

You are invited to a unique, interactive tour of The Long Line — a monumental drawing by Meg Rotzel inspired by the people, creatures and green things of our Boston neighborhood. The artwork, installed in the glass curtain window of the Substation, is inspired by The Big Draw, a community drawing event held by the artist, Bonnie Duncan, and The Gottabees in January. The 130 friends, neighbors and families who participated in The Big Draw will recognize Meg’s distinctive line that traces the hills and streets of Roslindale and their own joyful contributions.

Join us in celebration of the beloved living things that belong in our neighborhood. The 20-minute interactive tour features The Gottabees’ poignant and playful presence, and a spirited dialogue between collaborators Bonnie and Meg.

is an artist and curator based in Boston, MA. Rotzel’s work explores the sensorial body while her curatorial practice is rooted in knowledge systems and their institutionalization. Drawing is fundamental to Rotzel’s practice, she uses handbuilt ceramics, ink, and assemblage to create individual artworks. Her collaborative works with Bonnie Duncan incorporate performance and their shared experience of illness and the communities that surround them. Rotzel’s recent work has been included in exhibitions at the Providence College Galleries, the Boston Center for the Arts, and Gallery Very. She has received grants from the LEF Foundation, the St. Botolft Foundation, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the City of Boston.

The Big Draw is supported by a grant from the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and the City of Boston, and Substation Community Supporters.
