We are offering a new, day-long CPD-certified dream workshop for therapists on Sunday, 6 April in Swansea. Sign up now as spaces are limited, and learn how to work with dreams to deepen your practice.-----------------------------------
Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness's of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. - Carl Jung
This interactive workshop is hosted by Laura Roklicer, PhD, a psychologist and published author specialising in creative dream work alongside Barry Hicks, accredited gestalt therapist working with dreams for more than a decade. We will dive into that other dimension that sits right behind closed eyes yet seems so far away when brought into wakefulness.
Dreams are windows into the self; the unconscious speaking to us through nightly metaphors. The power of dreams and the wish to decode their messages and shine light on their mystery has been an ancient quest across cultures on Earth. From witches and shamans to contemporary psychoanalysts, the importance of understanding the personal and cultural meaning of dreams has been integral to understanding ourselves as human beings.
In this workshop, we will be using contemporary tools to unwrap and explore the way our subconscious seeks to release and regulate our emotions through the dream medium. Sometimes obvious and sometimes protectively obscure, we will open up our dreams, often revealing the shadowy parts of ourselves, and bringing empathy for the dream sharers and their shadows. Through creative reenactment and group work, we will bring our dream time into the present awakened state, using methods such as the Ullman dream appreciation and Gestalt.
These workshops can be powerful and transformative. By their nature, they can also be challenging. We will always ask for consent from all participants before proceeding with any dream work and continue to do so through each stage, reserving the right to wind down if we feel it appropriate.
Programme (10:00 – 16:00):
Through guided exercises, you will embody dream figures, expand their narratives through free association, and creatively express your chosen dream through storytelling to gain insight into its meanings and personal relevance. The afternoon features group sharing using the Ullman method and an interactive dream drama session, bringing dream elements to life.
