Insurgent Youth: Writing Histories of Rebellion in the Global 1960s Symposium: Oral History Workshop
Given the significance of oral history methodology to Dr. Barbosa’s scholarship, this conference will also offer an introduction to the practice and applications of oral history, in both academic and public contexts. Though aimed at graduate students from multiple fields (History, Anthropology, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Latin American and Latinx Studies, Native American Studies, and more), faculty, undergraduate students, and community members will be welcome to attend.
Prof. Jeffrey Gould, Dr. Barbosa’s advisor, and Elisabeth Rios-Brooks, Cultural Resource Program Coordinator for Boulder County Parks & Open Space, will offer a panel discussion and introductory workshop about what oral history is, where it comes from, and how it can be used. They will both provide examples of how they have used oral history in their public and academic careers and share ways that students and community members can get started with this kind of research methodology. Prof. Tony Wood will moderate the discussion.
