Jamie Soane (Woody) is a fisherman who lives in Newlyn.
His story title is: The Call of the Sea (Galow An Mor)in Cornish)
Woody will share about his journey from a desk in the Square Mile to the deck of a commercial fishing boat.
A bit about Woody
Before going fishing, Woody spent around a decade working in sales and office-based roles. After being made redundant in 2016, he decided to do something completely different. He travelled to the High Arctic region of northern Norway and worked through the winter skrei cod and king crab seasons.
After the season, he travelled through Europe and eventually ended up back in London. He gained his sea tickets and hitchhiked to Newlyn in March 2017 where he joined the Ajax.
Woody worked 36-hour shifts on deck during the hake season. He quickly caught the fishing bug and moved to Newlyn in 2019. He’s been a full-time commercial fisherman ever since.
He now owns his own small, grassroots commercial fishing boat, where he catches fish using hook and line.

Harrie Baxter is a freelance documentary maker, interviewer and social media manager. They live in Falmouth.
Their story title is: Unfollow Your Dreams
Harrie was raised to dream big. The question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” was forever circling their mind. At 13 and 6 ft 5” tall they discovered their love of netball and progressed quickly through the ranks to semi pro. Then they fell ill. Taking a year out from sport was the biggest challenge they had ever faced. Taking time to reflect Harrie realised it was time to unfollow that dream and pivot.
Harrie's story is about having the bravery to dive headfirst into their dreams, giving every passion their best shot. And knowing that choosing to step away from a dream didn’t mean they had failed. Because unfollowing your dreams requires as much bravery as chasing them.
A bit about Harrie
Harrie is a freelancer who combines work in documentary filmmaking and interviewing, as well as social media management. They’re a people person through and through & love meeting new people and helping them share their stories.
Harrie lives in Falmouth. Originally from New Zealand, near the crystal blue waters of the Tutukaka Coast. They love sea swimming and have spent the last 2 years exploring Scotland, England and Wales in a van.
