Ever wondered what lies behind the doors of the Rand Club?
On 5 September, you can find out.
We have been given exclusive access to the Rand Club for a full tour of this remarkable historic building — from basement to ballroom.
Founded in 1887, just one year after the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand, the Rand Club has been at the heart of Johannesburg's story for almost 140 years.
But before we step through its doors, we'll take a short walk through the streets that made the City of Gold.
We'll explore Main Street and Commissioner Street, following the footsteps of the extraordinary men who transformed Johannesburg from a dusty mining camp into one of Africa's great cities.
The Randlords.
They arrived from places like Kimberley. They made — and sometimes lost — enormous fortunes. They built grand offices, controlled mines and concessions, competed ruthlessly with one another and left their mark all over Johannesburg.
Along the way we'll uncover some of their stories:
Why were so many of them from Kimberley?
How did a district surgeon become a lawyer and mining magnate?
Was Herman Eckstein the most brilliant of the Randlords?
Why didn't Cecil John Rhodes achieve what he wanted on the Rand?
Who was the gentleman who never went anywhere without his white helmet?
And who found the right concessions and became rich faster than almost anyone else?
Then we return to the Rand Club for the main event.
A full guided tour of one of Johannesburg's most fascinating buildings, including its magnificent interiors, historic rooms, famous staircase and the stories of the people who gathered here.
And, of course, we'll spend some time in the iconic Main Bar.
The walk itself is only around 2 km, leaving us plenty of time to enjoy the Club and all that it has to offer.

You're welcome to make an occasion of it in the Club afterwards. Lunch is not included in the tour fee.
