About this Event

Enjoy a fresh pour while you learn about the history of brewing in Toronto! Featuring special presentations from:

- Assistant Professor - Anthropology (University of Toronto)
Stone Aged Beer: An Archaeology of the World's Oldest Pints
"Beer brewing likely predates farming by millennia, and the proof is in the plant residues! Join an archaeobotanist for tales of ancient brews from burial caves and early settlements, tracing microbotanical evidence like altered starch grains, phytoliths, and fungal/yeast traces, at standout cases to consider how these tiny clues tell big stories about ritual,
diet, and even the origins of agriculture."

- Author, Head of Program - Beer Specialist Certificate at George Brown College

Ripped From The Headlines: The Toronto Brewery Strike of 1904
Beer. Beer never changes. Based on research done after the completion of Lost Breweries of Toronto, join historian Jordan St.John as he examines one of the pivotal moments in Toronto's brewing trade and highlights the pressures that breweries have faced for the last hundred and fifty years in our fair city. It's got everything! Wage stagnation! Housing costs! Regional Competition! Fistfights with Constables! Labour's Nuclear Option! All on the eve of Prohibition which, if we're being honest, no one really took all that seriously.

100% of PWYC Donations for this event will contribute to our B4E Fund. This fund supports grassroots organizations that are aligned with the Beer For Everybody mission to fight systemic inequities in our local communities. This may come in the form of monetary donations, product-in-kind donations, or other forms of support. The fund is designed to reach organizations that we otherwise would not be able to support through our larger, quarterly partnerships. Disbursement is reviewed and decided by committee quarterly, or as funding allows.
