About this Event
Join us for an engaging evening with Cynthia Renée Marcusson, board member of the AGTA, gem mine geologist, owner of Cynthia Renée Inc., and passionate gem enthusiast, as she shares her expertise.
What gives a gemstone its pull—across centuries, cultures, and lives?
In this multi-media presentation, you are brought inside the world where that question is answered—from the earth itself, through the people and places where gems are found and traded, to the transformation of a stone into a finished jewel.
Cynthia Renée began as a gem mine geologist and built her life in the international gem trade, advising collectors and creating deeply personal jewels that are worn, lived in, and passed on.
Drawing on decades of experience, she shares considerations behind collecting, the dynamic nature of the colored gem market, and how certain jewels come to carry the life of the person who wears them.
Along the way, she explores something less often spoken about: our instinct to gather and wear jewels, and how certain pieces come to carry memory, identity, and meaning over time.
The result is a broader understanding of gemstones and jewelry—not only as rare natural materials, but as enduring objects that connect us to the earth, to our own lives, and to those who come after us.
