Human body composting also called “natural organic reduction” (NOR), “terramation” or "recomposition,” is an eco-friendly method for turning a human body into soil. It’s a forward-looking alternative to burial and cremation that’s gaining attention world-wide for its lower environmental impact. Currently this is not an option in Australia. However, with growing environmental concerns about the funeral industry options and a desire for people to be returned to the Earth, we are starting to ask should this be an option.
This evening is an information session about Natural Organic Reduction. We will discuss the science and technology involved, the environmental concerns around the current options of fire cremation and burial, ethics and dignity, and how we can ask for change.
Right now, WA law only recognises burial, cremation and sea burial as lawful methods of final disposition. To bring in alternatives we need to start having conversations.
This is a free event that is open to the public.
If you are interested in death care, sustainability, soil science or just having interesting conversations then come along.
