About this Event
Lesson relates to:
-Support pregnant women to recognise the importance of breastfeeding and early relationships for the health and wellbeing of their baby.
-Support all mothers and babies to initiate a close relationship and feeding soon after birth.
-Enable mothers to get breastfeeding off to a good start.
-Support mothers to make informed decisions regarding the introduction of food or fluids other than breastmilk.
-Support parents to have a close and loving relationship with their baby.
Learning outcomes for this session:
To understand some of the key differences between breastmilk and formula milk.
To explore personal feelings around feeding method, and provide a forum to discuss preconceived ideas.
To appreciate the role of oxytocin in brain development and relationship building.
To consider when hand expressing may be a useful tool.
To appreciate the physiological and psychological impact of uninterrupted skin-to-skin.
To understand which sleeping practices aid responsiveness and promote safety.
