About this Event
Celebrate National Poetry Month with Indy Reads!
Every Wednesday evening in April, gather with fellow writers at Indy Reads for a creative and inspiring poetry experience. Each week, enjoy either a quiet, self-guided freewrite session or a workshop led by a local poet, designed to spark ideas and build confidence in your writing. Bring your laptop, notebook, or just yourself—and join us for an evening of words, connection, and creative fun.
We’ll provide writing prompts, activities, and a supportive, relaxed space where creativity can flow. Whether you’re an experienced poet, a casual writer, or simply curious, you are welcome here!
Join for any or all of the following dates:
Wednesday, April 1 at 5:30pm: Poetry Free-Write
Take a break from feedback and let loose creatively at Indy Reads’ freewrite poetry sessions. Enjoy a relaxed poetry event designed for writers of all levels, where the focus is on exploration rather than critique. Guided by inspiring prompts, participants are encouraged to write freely and follow where the words lead. Bring a notebook or laptop and settle into a welcoming, community-centered space to experiment, break creative blocks, and write alongside fellow poets.
Wednesday, April 8 at 6pm: Poetry Workshop with Mitchell L.H. Douglas
Rev up your pens and get ready to join Mitchell L.H. Dougals at 6pm for a speed writing poetry workshop!
Mitchelle earned his MFA in Poetry at Indiana University Bloomington and moved to Indianapolis to teach soon after. A poet and visual artist, Mitchell’s passion is creating free arts events that improve the quality of life for the community. He enjoys live music, collecting vinyl, and traveling for museum visits.

Wednesday, April 22 at 5:30pm: Poetry Workshop with IndyUntitled
Join Indy Untitled for our second poetry workshop at Indy Reads this April!
This special session will be workshop-only, allowing us to fully focus on the writing. Indy Untitled will lead a prompt-driven workshop designed to spark creativity, conversation, and growth. Connect with local poets, share your work, and receive thoughtful feedback in a supportive community space.
IndyUntitled is an independent writers' collective consisting of multi-talented individuals with a common goal of connecting our neighbors and friends through poetry. They strongly believe that access to free art and literacy is vital to the health and strength of our community. They aim to progress and uplift writers of all skill sets through workshops, open mics, and publication opportunities.
These events are recommended for participants age 16 and up.
At the end of the month, you're welcome to share your freewrite creations at Indy Reads Lit Stage open mic on Wednesday, April 29 at 6pm!
