Jozef Van Wissem is a Dutch minimalist composer and lutenist known for his hypnotic, meditative style that blends Renaissance lute music with contemporary experimental and ambient sounds. He has released numerous solo and collaborative albums, including work with filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. His music, often characterized by repetitive structures and subtle variations, has been featured in film soundtracks, most notably Only Lovers Left Alive (2013), for which he won the Cannes Soundtrack Award. Van Wissem’s unique approach to the lute and his avant-garde compositions have earned him a dedicated following in both classical and experimental music circles.
