Primarily trained in the Veen-Kar style of Sitar which draws techniques and idioms of the Veena, Indrajit has been able to carve a niche for himself with his eclecticism and versatility. Indrajit strives for a fine balance of traditionalism coupled with innovation and is renowned for his meditative introductions and lightning improvisations at high tempos. Brought up between USA and India, Indrajit draws on his rich background in collaborations with distinguished artists from other genres including Wynton Marsalis and has performed at venues such as Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata. In India, he is a featured performer on national television (Doordarshan).
At Halcyon Arts New England, Indrajit will be accompanied on tabla by Pandit Arup Chattopadhyay. Pt. Arup Chattopadhyay has established himself as a top-notch accompanist as well as a formidable soloist. Arup’s performances are admired for their exceptional tonal quality, clarity, and deep compositional repertoire, all presented with an innate sense of rhythm and melody. Shankar Ghosh, and is one of his premier disciples. Arup was awarded Top-Grade by All India Radio and Television. He rose to fame accompanying Pt. Ravi Shankar on tours throughout the USA, Canada and Europe.
