About this Event

Indigo Wind Quintet is a trailblazing wind chamber ensemble reshaping what chamber music sounds, looks, and feels like. Through inclusive performance, radical accessibility, and community-centered collaboration, Indigo Wind is committed to decolonizing the chamber music experience and amplifying the voices of underrepresented composers and communities. Founded in New York City in 2025, the group comprises five accomplished artists and educators: Kyrese Washington (flute), Matthew Maroon (oboe), Elia Foster (clarinet), Aliyah Danielle (horn), and Rosalie M. Avery (bassoon).

/

Kyrese Washington (they/them) is a New York City–based flutist, composer, and educator committed to making a meaningful impact through music. A distinguished performer, Kyrese has earned first place in several national competitions, including those hosted by the New York Flute Club, Atlanta Flute Club, Rochester Flute Association, and Raleigh Area Flute Association. They hold a BM in Flute Performance from UNC Greensboro, where they graduated as a Presser Scholar, and an MM in Classical Flute from the Manhattan School of Music. Their artistic growth has been shaped by mentors including Valerie Coleman, Dr. Erika Boysen, Dr. Tim Hagen, Dr. Kelly Nivison, and Adam Workman.

Matthew Maroon (he/him) is a NYC-based freelance oboist. He has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall, with the American Ballet Theater Orchestra, and on Broadway. He attended the National Orchestral Institute-- serving as principal oboist on their Naxos recording of Aaron Copeland's The Tender Land Suite under maestra JoAnn Falletta. An avid chamber musician, Matthew has also performed in woodwind quintets and mixed ensembles with strings and was a participant of the Orchestra of St. Luke's Chamber Music Mentorship Program. He is an enthusiastic supporter of new music and loves to learn and explore music of all genres.

Elia Foster (she/her) is a passionate performer and educator in the New York City area. Since graduating from McGill University in May 2020, she has immersed herself in the NYC’s freelancing scene. Elia has performed with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, PROTESTRA, Ensemble 212, New Camerata Opera, and City Lyric Opera. In her spare time, Elia enjoys running and looks forward to completing the New York City and Paris marathons this year.

Aliyah Danielle (she/her) is a dynamic artist with a unique approach that can be summed up in one word: unconventional. The winding roads of Aliyah’s diverse interests and experiences converge to form the heart of her creations, which seek to tell stories through sound and blend genres to create new, interesting sonic textures. A collaborator at heart, Aliyah’s mission is to use her art to pose questions and start conversations surrounding issues embedded in our world’s cultural and social systems, allowing us to better understand others and their belief systems. Aliyah enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer, composer, producer, and educator. She has performed across the USA and in Austria, Hungary, Denmark, Belgium, Spain, Canada, The Netherlands, and Japan.

Rosalie Avery (she/her) is a freelance bassoonist and composer based out of Brooklyn, New York. She currently is a co-composer and performer with the ensemble Aesop's Sound Fables, a group dedicated to live scoring silent films across Brooklyn. The group performs in many small venues and DIY spaces and is dedicated to keeping performances low-cost. Rosalie is an active freelancer in the area and has performed with ensembles across the city like PROTESTRA, The Queer Urban Orchestra, New Camerata Opera, Amore Opera Company, and many more. Outside of her life as a musician, Rosalie loves cooking new recipes at home and spending time with her wife and two cats.

Dylan Ofrias is a New York based percussionist and educator. He is a resident accompanist at the Paul Taylor Dance Company and performs Balinese Gamelan with Gamelan Yowana Sari. Dylan is passionate about contemporary music and regularly plays the works of living composers. His recent collaborations include artists such as Talujon, Steve Reich, and Bang on a Can All-Stars.
