About this Event

*French will follow. Le Français suivra

The Indigenous Walking Tours (IWT) will explore Ottawa downtown monuments, art, architecture and landscape through an Indigenous perspective. These exceptional tours present a unique opportunity to learn the impact and presence of Indigenous People’s history in our city.

The IWT leader, artist and educator Jaime Morse has been organizing these knowledge sharing events since 2014. Jaime is a proud Metis originally from Lac la Biche, a Buffalo Lake Metis settlement in Alberta. She has a background in Canadian studies and art. Over the years, she's proudly led tours at the National Gallery for First Nations youth, sharing Indigenous stories with the next generation. Jaime and her partner, Réjean Demers provide a comfortable space for the community to enjoy the tour and can deliver the information in both English and French (AM tours). They have included thoughtful considerations to make the tour accessible for People with disabilities, the youth, older adults and newcomers to the city.

The tours will be held on every other Saturday from May through October, with book themed tours on indicated days. Please select which day you are attending the tour.

The walking tours are approximately 90 minutes in duration and are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Interpretation occurs during stops in a mixed indoor / outdoor environment and park areas. We begin at the bench near the 110 Laurier Ave. W entrance to City Hall, proceeding towards Marion Dewar plaza. There will be places for shelter and opportunities to take breaks, use the washrooms and sit down. Pets are also welcome.

Please invite your family and friends to come and learn to appreciate our city through an Indigenous perspective.

Registration will close 2 hours before each tour starts. There is a minimum of 5 participants per tour. If you need assistance before the tour, please contact Jaime at 613 290 8597
