Indigenous sport science has, for thousands of years, encompassed Land, Spirit, Intuition, and Community for survival and relationality.On March 20, experience connection through games and activities that were created for survival and to expand relationships with Land, Community, and Elements.
What to expect:
⚡️ Slapshots & Intuition: learn the evolution of pucks and test out your slapshot speed against some experienced Native goalies and players
⚡️ Indigenous & Arctic Games: learn about and experience the science of hunting, intuition, and teamwork through games like fish pull, high kick, double ball, and stick pull
⚡️ Cousins Skateboard: learn about balance, body/spirit, and community while trying out some boards at their mobile skate park
⚡️ Bouldering & Rock Relationality: test your bouldering skills in Extreme Sports and expand your relationship with rocks and the mountain Ancestors with Siksika climber, Cassie Ayoungman
⚡️ Arrow Aerodynamics: test out how feathers, placement, wood, and carving styles affect how arrow fly and are used with Íethka Elders & Knowledge Keepers
⚡️ OG Power Bar Workshop: make an OG power bar that sustained many Indigenous communities through long hunting trips or over a cold winter
⚡️ Movement, Dance, & Frequency: learn some pow wow moves and the depth of intention behind each beat, hop, and rhythm
⚡️ Hand Games for Instinct: test your skills of perception and deception with a mini hand games tournament
⚡️Hooks & Fishes: choose a lure that reflects local waters and try to catch a fish in Spark’s mini Indigenous science pond
⚡️ Mini Indigenous Sport & Game Film Festival: short Indigenous sport and game films will be screened in the Infinity Dome

First Student Charter Bus Rental will be providing continuous shuttle services from the Calgary Zoo North Entrance to Spark Main Entrance and back from 4:50 PM to 10:20 PM.
