Gather in our Sculpture Court for a performance by flutist and storyteller Aio “Blue Heron” Sifu in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. In reaction to our modern world of electronics, Sifu seeks to create an environment of emotional inclusion and a relationship with nature and the senses that stems from an indigenous mind and heart-space. She believes that the modern world has deadened our kinship to the natural world and robs us of the treasure that is the planet we are born from and into. In this performance, Sifu aims to remind attendees that it is possible to feel the air on your face without the wind blowing; that birds are messengers to those who listen; and that those who came before us have everything to do with the life we are privileged to live now.About the Guest Artists:
Aio “Blue Heron” Sifu is of Muscogee and Cherokee descent and was drawn to music at an early age. When the call of her First Nations heritage moved her to respond, the Native American flute became her instrument of choice. Sifu incorporates the ancient way of storytelling with her music to create an immersive and visual experience for the listener.
