Indigenous Noise: Woven Being Gallery Talk

Join Teagan Harris, Terra Engagement Fellow for , for a gallery talk set to a curated playlist of Indigenous musicians and sound artists. By focusing on the connections and themes shared between the exhibition and select songs, this tour highlights commonalities across art mediums and connections across perceived limits.

Block Gallery Talks offer a close look at select works on view centering the interdisciplinary questions, perspectives and expertise of faculty, staff, students, and community members across Northwestern and beyond.

Participation level – light, participants may choose to share thoughts and questions during the tour.

Programs are open to all, on a first-come first-served basis. RSVPs are not required, but are appreciated.

Through my work in Chicago museums and in academia, I have had the pleasure of engaging in numerous creative and useful decolonial projects such as creating a community archive that centers oral histories, designing a community space inside of an exhibition, and writing about identity and how it’s shaped by seemingly inconsequential things like movies and music. By putting my ideas into action, I hope to do my part to make the museum a welcoming place that democratizes access to information and engages with community needs in a responsive and open-hearted way. That’s what brought me to the Block Museum of Art where I serve as the Terra Foundation Engagement Fellow creating programming and media to support the exhibition Woven Being: Art for Zhegagoynak.
