About this Event
During the second half of the nineteenth century, Germans immigrated to Indianapolis in large numbers, coinciding with a period of intense growth for the city. On September 28, bike through downtown Indy and Fountain Square on a leisurely guided tour with Indiana Landmarks and explore the enduring impact of German heritage on the city’s landmarks, economics, politics, culture, and more.
Groups will cover approximately eight miles by bicycle over 3 to 3.5 hours, stopping to view exteriors of significant sites along the way including the 1900 South Side Turnverein, converted from German club to office space in 2019, and the Athenaeum, built in the 1890s and still an active hub of German life and culture in the city today.
This outdoor bike tour departs from The Stutz, 1060 N Capitol Ave, Indianapolis. Tourgoers should bring their own bicycles, in good operational condition, to participate. Helmets are strongly encouraged.
