About this Event
Join Indiana Audubon (IAS) for a special look at the winter spectacle of eagles along the upper Wabash River and reservoir floodplains. Over the past decade, northern Indiana has seen a significant increase in wintering Bald Eagles. Today, this region rivals other prominent Indiana wintering sites, boasting impressive numbers. Some counts exceed 100 birds in a morning!
This special field trip will meet at the Fairfax Beach on Monroe Lake on two dates: Friday, January 17th (2-5 p.m. ET) and Saturday, January 18th (9 a.m.-12 p.m. ET). Registered participants will meet at the Fairfax State Recreation Area parking lot by the beach. From there, the group will caravan to a few areas on the lake to view both feeding and roosting eagles, based on recent sightings.
This field trip is led by IAS member and birder Wes Homoya. Participants must pre-register, as trips fill up fast. The cost is $5 for IAS members and $10 for non-IAS members. The total duration for this event is about 3 hours. Note: A DNR Annual Entrance Pass or gate fee may be required to enter certain birding areas.
All participants must read and agree to the IAS Field Trip Release to participate in IAS led events and trips. We hope to see you there!
Accessibility: Minimal walking, mostly driving with short stops. No hiking necessary. Dress for winter weather birding.
