In conjunction with Texas History Month, the Brenham Heritage Museum (BHM) is mounting an exhibit honoring its sister museum and historic site at Washington-on-the-Brazos. Titled Independence Reborn, the displays in BHM’s Blue Bell Gallery serve as an introduction to the rich history associated with the Washington site and include a generous nod to the extensive renovations that recently debuted at the state historic site. Images, text, and artifacts tell the stories of the Town of Washington and the people who founded it, along with the independence convention that made it famous. There are also displays highlighting the history of the park, the extensive living history at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site, and the recreation of the footprint of the old town site. Many of the artifacts are on loan from the Star of the Republic Museum.
The Brenham Heritage Museum is located at 105 South Market Street in downtown Brenham. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission to Independence Reborn is included with regular museum admission. Admission rates can be found on the museum’s website: www.bhmtexas.org. This exhibit will be on view from Wednesday, March 4 until Saturday, April 18, 2026.
