About this Event

69th Independence Day Celebration: Our Heritage through Music and Literature

Join us for a full-day cultural celebration marking Ghana’s 69th Independence Day, rooted in authentic Ghanaian storytelling through music, poetry, literature, and community reflection.

Our Heritage through Music and Literature foregrounds the idea that Ghana’s history lives in our voices, rhythms, and shared stories. The programme invites intergenerational engagement—creating space to reflect on what independence has meant, what it means today, and what it can become.

The day opens with a curated literary prelude in collaboration with Bibliophiles and Vibes Book Club, featuring a guided reading and discussion that explores Ghanaian identity from Poetra Asantewa's book Someone Birthed Them Broken. This is followed by interactive outdoor and indoor Ghanaian games, quizzes, and playful cultural activities that celebrate everyday expressions of being Ghanaian.

In the early evening, Ancestors Answer Me brings poetry to the forefront, with readings by four poets curated by Creatives Project Ghana, connecting ancestral memory to contemporary questions of nationhood.

The celebration culminates in an intimate evening programme of acoustic music and poetry, featuring performances by TSIE, Elsie Raad, Koo Kumi, and Mr. Poetivist blending traditional and contemporary Ghanaian sounds in a reflective, communal atmosphere.

Come for the stories, stay for the music, and celebrate independence through heritage, creativity, and community.
