Have you ever wanted to try painting outdoors but felt overwhelmed by the gear, the cost, or just where to start? Drop the intimidation and join us for a relaxed, zero-pressure afternoon of fresh air and creative freedom! The Outdoor Canvas is an experiential "taster" workshop designed specifically for absolute beginners as well as seasoned artists to test-drive the beautiful tradition of en plein air painting.

No expensive supply lists. No rigid rules. Just open time to play.

We break down the financial barrier to entry by providing everything you need. You will get to step up to a professional portable easel and dive into an open art buffet packed with high-quality supplies. Instead of sticking to just one medium, you are encouraged to experiment!

What to Expect

We will kick off the session with a casual, 20-minute guide to the gear and a 10-minute crash course on how to framing a scene using a viewfinder. Once you have the basics down, the rest of the workshop belongs entirely to you.

Spend your time mixing colors, breathing in the fresh air, and capturing the landscape at your own pace. Try a quick watercolor wash for forty-five minutes, then switch your medium and spend the next hour experimenting with bold oil pastels. The focus here is entirely on progress over perfection and the joy of discovery.

We will wrap up the day with a casual "gallery stroll" to look at everyone’s creations, share what we learned, and celebrate trying something completely new!

Details & What to Bring

• Provided for You: Premium portable easels, all canvases/multimedia papers, acrylics, watercolors, oil pastels, brushes, mixing palettes, and cleanup utilities.
• What to Bring: A comfortable camp chair or lawn chair, a wide-brimmed hat to block the sun, and your favorite water bottle.

There is free, public, accessible parking as well as a no-step entry. Sidewalks and crosswalk are present along the path to our studio. The gender neutral restroom within our space is large and accessible with grab bars.
