About this Event

The Inclusion Jumpstart Series is a three-part training designed to help youth programs build welcoming, accessible environments where all young people—including those with disabilities—can participate meaningfully. Each session provides practical tools, real examples, and clear guidance on how to strengthen inclusive practices across your program. UNIVERSAL REQUIREMENT FOR DCYF GRANTEES

  • Learn best practices for welcoming and including children with disabilities!
  • Explore meaningful changes!
  • Transform your program today!

Complete all three workshops in one day and in person!! Lunch will be provided!

PART 1 – Why Inclusion Matters

This session explains why inclusion matters and breaks down key federal, state, and DCYF requirements. Participants learn practical strategies to welcome children and youth with disabilities, how to adapt activities, prevent unsafe situations, and respond appropriately to disability-related behaviors. Participants leave with a clear understanding of legal mandates and their implications for inclusive practices.

Part 2 - Systems for Inclusion: All Meansl All

Part 2 focuses on the systems and routines that make inclusion work across a whole program. Participants learn how to adapt environments, supervision, and participation for learners with diverse needs and disabilities. Tools include environment checklists, layered supports, and routines that reduce incidents and strengthen staff readiness.

Part 3 - Navigating Difficult Situations: Turning Training Into Lasting Change

The final session helps programs implement inclusive practices consistently over time. Participants create realistic plans for staff training, coaching, and ongoing reinforcement. Through real scenarios, teams strengthen their skills in behavior support, communication needs, conflict resolution, and elopement prevention. Participants leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of diverse disabilities, and a tool set that will assist them in transforming their programs into inclusive environments supportive of all!

All three Inclusion Jumpstart Series workshops (total 6 hours) must be completed in order to meet DCFY requirements for all grantees.
