Charlotte Jones, PhD candidate in Anthropology at LSU presents her work on cattle brands commun among Acadian and Creole families in South Louisiana. Charlotte's dissertation project is an analysis of cattle brands in the Attapakas district recorded since the arrival of the first Acadian settlers. Charlotte will be giving a talk on her research at the Roy House on February 6th. Doors open at 5:30 pm. As with all of our In Your Own Backyard workshops, we invite the public to share their knowledge on the subject during the discussion portion. This talk addresses ways that Acadians and Creoles asserted their identity through cattle branding, and Charlotte reveals some fascinating hypotheses about the origins of some of these symbols from the ancestral lands of our creolized people.
There is limited parking in our Roy House lot and across the street at Martin Hall Circle. There are ParkMobile pay lots walking distance from the Roy House on University Avenue.
