In the shadow of the Auliya: a walk through Basti Nizamuddin

Long before it was a monument, it was Ghiyaspur — a village where a saint's khanqah drew seekers from every walk of life. A stepwell defied a Sultan's orders, a disciple lit a lamp with water instead of oil & earned the name Chiragh-e-Dilli, and a language was born in the meeting of Persian verse with Indian soil. Even today, the courtyard at Urs Mahal fills with Qawwali, keeping that same devotion alive.
