Considered to be one of the best films of the still-young 21st century, Chinese master Wong Kar-Wai's In The Mood For Love has been called "era-defining ... [evoking] glamour with a streak of grittiness, and the feeling of being adrift," impacting popular culture broadly, including fashion and social media. The film is deeply influential, cited by directors like Sofia Coppola, Barry Jenkins, and Daniels (of Everything Everywhere All At Once) as being among their favorites. In the latest Sight & Sound critics' poll, the film was ranked as the 5th best movie of all time in 2022, the highest ranked movie of the 2000s.
In The Mood For Love will be followed by a rarely seen short film of Wong Kar-Wai's featuring both leads of the feature called In the Mood for Love 2001. The 10-minute short is being screened in theaters around the country to celebrate the film's recent 25-year anniversary.
The Paducah Film Society is Maiden Alley Cinema's own monthly movie club, screening classic, cult, and foreign films in western Kentucky. PFS is supported by Maiden Alley Cinema, WKMS, and local donors.
